After all the difficulties surrounding Manchester United’s summer transfer window, the club’s lack of a sporting director has perhaps never been felt more keenly.

The Red Devils let go of both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez without signing a replacement, whilst they only managed to complete three permanent deals in Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire.

Reports in recent months had suggested Ed Woodward had plans on appointing a sporting director, but that idea was seemingly quashed when the executive vice-chairman insisted that their current approach is working well.

Lille’s current sporting director Luis Campos admitted in an interview with Sky Sports that he believes he could help the club, and talked up the importance of having a key figure behind the scenes.

After hearing Campos’ comments, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the Manchester side urged the club to appoint him, and pointed to his track record with Lille as evidence of why he would be a great fit.

Some Red Devils fans called for Campos to “come and save us”, and insisted he is exactly the kind of person they need.
