Since the transfer window slammed shut last month, rumours about particular incomings at Elland Road haven’t exactly been rife.
Leeds added Liam McCarron among other youth players to their ranks over the summer but as far as the senior team was concerned, every arrival was a loan.
However, the Whites could add yet another young player to their squad, albeit one that looks ready for first-team action.
That is Sam McCallum, a defender who has been enjoying game time for League One highflyers Coventry this season.
On the chalkboard
The Coventry Telegraph reported last week that they understand Leeds are tracking McCallum, who is supposedly highly rated.
The 19-year-old has broken into the Coventry side this season and has been impressive in each half of the pitch.
McCallum, who is a full-back by trade, has completed 1.2 dribbles per game, won 2 aerial duels each outing whilst he’s also been fouled 1.8 times over the same metric, via WhoScored.
It shows that he has differing qualities but one of the traits he boasts should catch Marcelo Bielsa’s eyes immensely.
That falls in his ability to play in two different positions. For Coventry this season he’s played both as a right-back and at left-back.
It’s an aspect of his game that has similarities to those already at Leeds. Bielsa likes his players to be versatile and that’s shone through at various times this season.

Leif Davis has been converted from left-back into a centre half while Jack Harrison has played up front and out wide. Furthermore, Helder Costa and Jack Clarke have been used further forward as direct wingers but also as wing-backs.
It’s a clear area that Bielsa likes his players to work on and therefore, if they signed McCallum when the window opens again, he should have no trouble settling in.
His lack of football at Championship level shouldn’t be a concern either. Ben White, who was at Peterborough last term, won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for August after a strong start to life in the division.
This is a potential signing with little risk to it, but his versatility should make him the perfect Bielsa player.
