Bournemouth should sign Gheorghe Hagi’s son Ianis to cover for the injured Lewis Cook and ensure that their push for a place in the Europa League doesn’t come off the rails in the Englishman’s absence.
What’s the word, then?
Hagi junior has been in fine form for Romanian side Viitorul Constanta this season, scoring seven goals in 17 league games, as well as one strike in the Europa League.
The 20-year-old is an exceptionally technical player, who is said to have scored directly from a corner on multiple occasions and can strike a dead-ball with either foot depending on which side suits the situation better, according to BBC Sport’s Steve Crossman.
The injury-stricken Cook is a very good technical player himself, but does not have the ability to score goals in the way that Hagi can.
Incidentally, his dad actually owns and manages his son’s team, Constanta. However, it can’t be much longer until he sees him depart for one of Europe’s top leagues.
Where would he fit at Bournemouth?
The Romanian international would be an ideal playmaker for Eddie Howe’s side in the middle of the park alongside the more combative Jefferson Lerma. Since his injury in the 2-1 home win over Huddersfield, the Cherries have lost two consecutive games without Cook – even aside from his absence, the South Coast side have just one win in seven games.
Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...
After a stunning start to the campaign, Bournemouth now sit in 11th place in the table. However, the league is still very tight and, amazingly, they are just three points off sixth even despite their woeful recent form.
Perhaps the introduction of an impact player in the January transfer window will help give Howe’s side a kick up the backside and spark them into life – even beyond the current campaign, in Hagi, they could have a star of the future.
