According to The Mirror, Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho is interested in signing £6.62million rated 18-year-old Ajax winger Justin Kluivert.
What’s the story?
The youngster has come through the same youth system as Johan Cruyff, Edgar Davids and his dad Patrick Kluivert.
He has made 35 appearances for the Dutch outfit this season in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and also broken into the senior Dutch setup. His form for the Dutch giants has caught the eye of several top European clubs, including Manchester United.
The Mirror are reporting that Kluivert Jnr is ready to turn down a new contract at Ajax and sign for the Manchester club.
However, former Manchester United legend Edwin Van der Sar is trying to block the move. He is the chief executive officer at Ajax and has urged the young Dutch winger to continue his development at the club.
Justin Kluivert has the world at his feet and is just what Man United need
He has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. The youngster has the world at his feet and rightly so.
Kluivert has great control, acceleration and skill, which make it hard for defenders to stop him. His playing style can be compared to Neymar. He has the potential to reach that sort of level but will need to choose his next move carefully.
Man United and Kluivert could be the perfect marriage. He can play on either wing and in the number 10 role.
If Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford do leave Man United, the Dutch winger would be an ideal replacement for one of them.
What Man United have missed this year is someone to play on the right wing. Martial, Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata have all be used there but no one has been able to claim the position.
His pace and skill would suit United’s playing style. Mourinho has been criticised for his defensive style of play but an important part of United’s game this seasons have been counter-attacking football.
Could Kluivert’s relationship with Man United be the key to this move?
Despite being so young Kluivert has become an important part of the Ajax squad. His devastating pace and mesmerising skills have seen him go from academy graduate to the national squad.
He beat highly rated Italian keeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, to this year’s NxGn award. His form for Ajax has drawn the attention of a number of top clubs across Europe.
Mourinho and Kluivert have known each other for a number of years. The Portuguese manager coached his father, Patrick, at Barcelona. He was seen consoling the youngster after the Europa League final last year.
The seemingly good relationship Mourinho has with the youngster could persuade him to make the move to England.
It would seem that all the pieces are there for Kluivert to make the move. For less than £10million it could be a real coup for Man United.
