Veteran Vidal has rejoined Colo-Colo 17 years after leaving the club where he began his professional career. To honour the Chilean legend, fans came in their thousands to Estadio Monumental David Arellano as the 36-year-old touched down in a helicopter in the centre of the pitch. After waving to the crowd, the former Juventus star mounted a horse whilst being draped in a long cloak, before wearing a crown and wielding a sword in a welcome to end all welcomes.

White this arguably puts all player unveilings to shame, Vidal is perhaps one of Chile's greatest ever players and he has earned a hero's welcome. The Santiago-born footballer has made more than 700 appearances in his glittering career, which has included spells at Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Inter, Bayer Leverkusen and more. Vidal, who left Athletico Paranaense in late 2023, has won trophies all over the globe and has been capped 142 times by his country, so he deserves a bit of fanfare – excessive or not.
