It just hasn’t been Portsmouth’s transfer window this year.
First they lose star defender Matt Clarke to Premier League side Brighton, then Sky Sports News report that Jamal Lowe has asked the club to leave this summer, and now Portsmouth have missed out on the signing of Gary Mackay-Steven, who opted for a move to MLS with Manchester City’s sister club New York City FC.
The winger was a top target for Kenny Jackett’s side this summer, with Portsmouth News claiming that the Scottish international was at the top of the club’s transfer list, but with the news of Lowe potentially on the move this window as per the Sky Sports News report, Pompey could regret not pursuing Mackay-Steven’s further.
The former Aberdeen winger registeredtotal scoring 37 times and assisting 43 in his nine years in Scotland.
With an impressive tally, it is easy to see why Mackay-Steven could have been a quality addition for Portsmouth, and couple that with his ability to play on both wings and his famous trickery on the pitch and the League One side will be kicking themselves if Lowe does, in fact, leave this summer.
Mackay-Steven isn’t the first player Portsmouth have missed out on this summer with former target George Edmundson making the move to Rangers instead of the English south coast, and the club now needs to ensure he is the last case if Jackett is to recruit players who can take Pompey to promotion next season.
Portsmouth fans, who should the club sign this summer? Let us know!
